Step 1: Wash the full 1 pint cherry tomatoes, pat them dry and halve each tomato.
Step 2: Heat the 2 tbsp olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add all the halved cherry tomatoes and cook for about 3 minutes, until they soften and release some juice.
Step 3: Add the 8 minced garlic cloves and 1 tsp of either sea salt or kosher salt. Cook the juicy tomato mixture for another 3 minutes, until saucy and the garlic is cooked. Move the sauce pan off the active burner while you cook the pasta.
Step 4: In a separate large pot, bring the unmeasured pasta-cooking water to a boil. Cook the ⅓ lb angel hair according to the actual package directions until done. Use tongs to lift the cooked pasta directly into the pan of prepared tomato sauce, leaving most of the cooking water behind. Move the water pot off the active burner.
Step 5: Put the pan containing the cooked pasta and prepared sauce back over medium heat. Gently toss with tongs until the pasta is coated and hot.
Step 6: Add ¼ cup of the chopped basil, which is half of the one ½-cup supply. Toss a few times to distribute it, keeping the other ¼ cup reserved for topping.
Step 7: Divide the cooked pasta and sauce between two plates. Divide the remaining ¼ cup chopped basil over those two plates. Add the actual desired amounts of grated parmesan and red chili flakes only if using those optional toppings. Serve hot.
