Method9 steps · about 40 min
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
Step 2: Cut the half-slice of ham (1/2 slice), or the alternative small bacon rasher, into four small squares or Korean-flag-style stripes.
Step 3: Spread some of the 2 tbsp mayonnaise evenly over one bread slice, reserving the rest for the border.
Step 4: Cut a round hole in the center of the second bread slice using a cookie cutter or the edge of a sturdy round measuring cup.
Step 5: Place the bread slice with the hole on the mayonnaise-covered slice. If using cheese (1 slice), put its slice between the two bread slices.
Step 6: Squeeze the remaining mayonnaise around the outer edge of the top bread slice.
Step 7: Crack the egg (1) into the hole. Sprinkle with the pinch of salt and optional parsley (1 pinch). Arrange the prepared ham or bacon pieces at the four corners.
Step 8: Bake the assembled toast at 180°C (356°F) for about 20 minutes, until the egg white is set. Start checking at 15 minutes if you prefer a softer yolk; oven size and performance can change the cooking time.
Step 9: Serve the baked egg toast straight away. Fruit juice is an optional accompaniment.
