Step 1: Cut the can of SPAM (1 can) into bite-sized cubes, thinly slice the half onion, and slice the entire small head of cabbage (1 small head). Green, savoy or napa cabbage may be used.
Step 2: Warm a little cooking oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add all the prepared SPAM cubes and sliced onion. Fry for 3–5 minutes, until the onion begins to brown.
Step 3: Add all the prepared sliced cabbage to the same pan and stir it through the browned SPAM and onion. Pour in ½ cup water and 1–2 tbsp soy sauce, then mix evenly.
Step 4: Continue cooking the same pan for another 5–10 minutes, stirring as needed, until the cabbage is tender and the SPAM is heated through.
Step 5: Serve the finished SPAM and tender cabbage hot with bowls of hot cooked rice. Divide the pan according to appetite; the author does not give a fixed number of servings.
