Step 1: Prepare the syrup first: combine the 2 cups syrup sugar and 2 cups water, bring to a boil, and cook for 10 minutes over medium heat. Turn off the heat and add either a dash of vanilla powder or 1 teaspoon orange blossom water.
Step 2: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a bowl, combine semolina, optional coconut flakes (2 tablespoons), the 3/4 cup cake sugar, and baking powder; mix well.
Step 3: Warm the butter and milk, until butter is melted and add to the above mixture.
Step 4: Mix the cake batter until well incorporated and all the semolina grains are moistened; keep the prepared syrup separate.
Step 5: Butter a 13x9 cookie sheet or a 16" pizza pan, and spread the batter evenly.
Step 6: Brush the surface with a little of the prepared syrup, reserving the rest for soaking after baking.
Step 7: Sprinkle nuts on top or arrange in a decorative way.
Step 8: Bake in a 350F preheated oven, bake for 15 minutes, then broil for another 5 minutes until golden brown, be careful and keep an eye on it.
Step 9: Pour the remaining syrup over the hot baked cake; rewarm the syrup if needed. Let the syrup soak in and the cake cool before serving.
